Jamaica much safer today, Hurray Hurray

Crime takes hold of many countries the world over when politicians and those with vested interests fail to support measures by the Government to stem the tide of corruption, crime and the action of undesirable elements in that particular society.

That being said and can be supported by evidence that is in abundance, it now becomes clear that the crime situation in Jamaica could have been over with a long time ago if politicians had a genuine affection and love for the people.

But that was not to be and it took the foresight and courage of the Bruce Golding Government to take the ‘bull’ by the horns and implement policies aimed at not only curbing crime, but putting a brake on corruption and nepotism.

Much of what has been achieved can be credited to the limited state of emergency in certain areas, including Kingston and St. Andrew, Spanish Town, Clarendon and St. James and paving the way for the Security Forces to conduct themselves with impartiality and good judgment.

It is no secret that the Police Force for many years have been crying out for help from both the government and the citizens and all they were getting was cold shoulder and to make matters worse the continuous interference by these human rights group that claim they are protecting human rights. I ask the question, where are they now to see the changes that are now happening in most of the major crime areas?

I am aware of the situation from where we started to where we are today because I was a part of the system. Sadly Politicians are so caught up in protecting criminal elements that surround their political parties that they were all blind to what ever wrong they do. In fact, what occurred was they, perhaps unwittingly, built a bridge around themselves with criminals that were not educated enough to understand what is wrong from right. Their objective was to protect and do the wrong thing to make sure the persons who provide them with handouts and therefore pave the way for them to win their seat in Parliament.

No matter what they now say that the JLP have done, whether they were forced to do what they have done. Actually they have done some good in making sure that the criminal activities stop now. Now examine the case of the opposition PNP who were there for almost 20 years. Tell me, what did they do, absolutely nothing to make the country safe and secure for us. The situation could be likened to a train running down a hill without a driver. Now the situation is reversed as it is a train with a driver and the brakes are now stopping the train.

We have seen the tricks of the 70s, 80s and 90s and the early 2000’s and we need to ask ourselves. How much do we want to go back? People are now breathing a sigh of relief and they can now sleep in peace and confidence after so many years of turmoil.

I am not surprised that the PNP won’t support the JLP because they don’t want the JLP to get the credit. It is obvious that all they are interested in is to tear down the walls of progress and create chaos. It is obvious whose interest it is to make sure that the country remains stable. The simple answer is that it’s all of us and the blame can be pointed to political tribalism as a result of the refusal of both parties wont work together.

We must acknowledge and give credit to the Prime Minister and his team although they are not without blame. The Security Forces must have make a greater contribution to the safety and security of the nation and in so doing, make it difficult for these criminals to sleep in peace. Right now, they have them on the run and the security forces must ensure that they keep on running until they are forced to sleep.

When that happens, they will be nabbed and brought to justice. They have had a free reign for too long. It is time to end it.

Let me say Hurray. Hurray to all those that are involved in trying to bring Jamaica back to where it was in the 50s and the early 60s where Jamaicans enjoyed peace, love and harmony. God Bless Jamaica, the Land of Beautiful people.
